True, the MPC3000/60/2000 are better in terms of work flow (mainly because of "sample" time), but the SP-12 has a very unique "swing" and the classic 12-bit sound that is a must have in the studio. I have 2 SP-12's. One is a backup in case the other one dies. I'm holding onto this baby for life!!!!!

Also, the SP-12 has a "fair" market price. (around 500-600 bucks.) The SP-1200 is great, but a little overpriced IMHO.

If you want a machine for just creating break beats, the SP-12 Turbo's 5 seconds of sample time is more than enough to get the job done.

I own the MPC 60 and decided to buy the SP12 to do my own A/B comparison. I put the same drum kit into both running from my ASR-10. My personal preference would be the 60. The SP12 is a good sounding module, but my 60 gets more use.

I just got mine today...I was an sp1200 user for many years, but somehow got pulled over to the MPC-series samplers...anyways, after about 5 years of no SP sound, i just broke down and got another...of course sampling drums into it is killer...but the filters on 1&2 are what do it for me....

UT: I would also be interested in one of those mods! email me with the info!

I've post here before, but must be done again, because the SP-12 Turbo is the most unique drum machine / sampler ever. I LOVE IT.
