Yes, the sample RAM is retained on power-down. Backed up by a lithium battery that lasts approx 5 years.
The standard SP12 has 1.19 seconds sample time and the Turbo has 4.76 seconds, unfortunately the Turbo upgrade didn't *add* to the existing time so you don't get 5.95 seconds.

thanks JB. another question does the sp12 retain samples after power down(essentially flash rom)?. And seen as the original unexspanded machine has 1.2 seconds of sample time does the turbo upgrade add another 5 seconds thus making the total sampling time 6.2 seconds?.
thanks again..

Identical sound quality to the SP1200 (or lack of :-) ), same filters etc, same sequencer, the only noticable difference being that the 12 only has 8 sample locations as opposed to the 1200's 32, the 12 has no built in disk-drive (requires an external Commadore unit) and has 24 built-in ROM samples, plus the SP12 looks cooler :-)

Awesome box. What you put into it comes out sounding like a jackhammer. Most people don't realize that you can REPLACE THE ONBOARD SOUNDS WITH SAMPLES! It's pretty clear in the manual ; you can only SAMPLE into bank 4, but you can then erase the Drumulator sounds by copying your samples into any of the other 3 banks - giving you 32 SAMPLES just like the SP-1200. If spending an extra $1000 for the 1200 seems worth it to you for 5 more seconds and a built-in floppy, then you must be crazy, because that's the ONLY thing separating the SP-12 TURBO from the SP-1200!
