Big fat drum sounds. I wouldn't spend the $1000+ money on a SP-1200. Most of the time I'd use the SP-12 with other sampler for more colours anyway. So the 5 sec. sampling time on my turbo SP-12 is good enough. You can get a Commodore drive from ebay for less than $35! But the shipping cost is expensive because all these vintage gears were built like a tank!

King of all hip hop drum machines.

This machine is The king. The MPC is great for clean crispy sounds that don't need any punch, But if you want the hardest hitting kicks and snares the 12 can't be topped! Gritty and Dirty! Raw like it should be! DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I COULD GET A HOLD OF THE EMU SOUND LIBRARY FOR IT. THE 5 1/4 FLOPPY LIBRARY? I HAVE A COUPLE OF DISKS BUT I'M LOOKING FOR THE ENTIRE LIBRARY. PLEASE EMAIL ME IF YOU HAVE ANY INFO, THANKS!!!

Ryan a professional user from New York writes:
the sp12 is a GREAT drum machine=), it magicaly transforms sounds, something unusable in 16 bit form is super usable in the sp12...it's got a very nice sound, thing about it is that it's really 16 bit or something like that? the sounds are stored in 16 bit? but it's demuxed to fit into the available ram? i'm not sure exactly, but it's just great, the sequencer is wonderful, and the 8 voices of polyphony is great, it reallly creates some organic feel, the sounds seem to interact with eachother because of the polyphony stealing...=), i have the turbo version which has 5.0 seconds of space, which is really enough for drums...and also some of the onboard samples are great...the hihats are *GREAT* and so is the clap...i love them at least=)...it's just a great machine

One of the(8) buttons quit working. Are they repairable of replacable? My display is no longer back any more. Is this repairable or replacable?

Very cool machine. Find something newer though. Check out the korg es-1. I'll still give it a 5 for it's originality and vintage appeal.
