The SP12 is such a fantastic machine,it is impossible to not get something nice going on in the studio if you have one of these. I personally like to sample off vinyl and utilise the seperate outputs on the back to rout the sounds to efx and stuff. I really like this machine for producing electric soul music.I sampled a cr8000 kit and a simple rhodes piano chord all in the time a sp12 turbo has.I pitched the kick and the snare down and played the roads piano in using an sp12 drum button whilst tuning the sample with the slider...the result was a sexy electronic soulfull mash of funk and mellow rhodes. The sp12 is pure inspiration, its limited sample time can be frustrating because it sounds so good you want all the sounds to be coming from this box,the sp1200 would be nice i think the extra 5 secs would come in handy but the price of it is too much for an extra 5 secs. if you see an sp12 turbo just buy it if you can,it is such a sexy machine. I do believe you could get similar sounds with other low fi samplers but its not just about the sound the sequncer is so damm funky and the tuning on the fly as its recording all add to the vibe of writing with this machine. true class. I can see why they are so sought after. peace.

I just got mine after a long Ebay wait... 12 weeks to ship to Australia! Another story...
This machine is da bomb! I have used computers to sequence since MicroLogic came out in the mid 90's(emagic lite version) and have used logic with midi gear, including an esi-4000. More recently i have used (so called)sample accurate soft synths. No fatter beats have I made until this sick puppy came along!
The auto repeat function is awesome. I sampled a bass stab direct from my SH09 and multipitched it and was gobsmacked at how funky it became. This is the missing link in my beat production!
Sound as good as it is built. Sherman tank style!
No more midi event scheduling or so called sample accuracy for me! 12 bit curtis crunch is in da house 2 stay!

My 1541 commodore drive keeps giving me the error #21 message thru the sp. What gives? Anyone?????????
Other than that problem, SP12 is the dirtiest banger on the block.

Yo,
to me the SP is the bomb drumsampler. The typical dithersound of this shitty sampling technique is cruchiest, dirtiest and most powerful EVER !!! Never get rid of mine...

the sp-12 is quite simply one of the best drum machines I have ever heard or used. No matter where you are, on your headphones or playing through a 15k sound system the sp-12 kicks the hats/snares/kicks and bass like no other. I own a TR808 and an MPC 3000 and each have there strengths. The big thing to me is the way the sp-12 cuts through the mix on any system. 12 bit crunch.... what can I say. The swing on the thing is insane.. so much feel.. what a machine. shame about those big floppies.. they're no where near as reliable as my sp...
