Cool sound but way overpriced...The Sp1200 costs more than 2000$ in France because of the hype surrounding daft punk, Modjo, Air and co. It reminds me of the TB 303...They used to be sold at an unbelievable price of 1500$. Now you can get one for less than 700$... If you do need that 12 bit grainy sound, resample your drums in 8 bits, boost the bass, add compression and slight distorsion.

Hulio Checkslavic III a professional user from Bulgaria writes:
The SP1200 is the most magical drum machine ever made. PERIOD! There is something about the way it sounds, and the way it sequences, that is literally beyond words, so all these reviews are useless. USE ONE, AND YOU'LL NEVER DO WITHOUT ONE! When you look at the specs, it looks like shit, I thought it was shit too, then I used one, and I was astounded. People say.... "you can emulate the SP1200 with any 12-bit sampler".... that's complete bullshit. I have an Emax too, and it is simlilar, but not the same. Theres a groove to the 1200's sequencer. Anything you sequence on it just automatically sounds funky as hell. The Emax is to the SP1200, like the MAM Space-Bass module is to the TB-303. Their not the same. The SP1200 is the king of all drum machines (maybe a SCI Studio 440 too).

ICZER 1: The Pawns of God a professional user from N.Y.C. writes:
The SP 1200 is magical. Any drum sound you sample into it changes for the better. For example just find the cleanest electronic drum you can (use any drum sound you want). SAMPLE it into an SP and watch what happens. I guarantee you it will become alive. No question E-MU came out with an excellent drum machine when they made this one, easy to use, totally useful in any style of music. The sp1200 is great. Thanks E-MU.

Pimpmaster Tommy B a professional user from Ft Lauderdale, FL writes:
Plain and simple...one of the most classic piecies of hip hop equipment since the direct drive turntable. What else can be said...no, it does not have the bells and whistles that an MPC may have but who cares ? IT'S PURE HIP HOP !!!

A-O.N.E. a hobbyist user from THE MILKY WAY writes:
PLAIN AND SIMPLE THE SP1200 IS LOVELY. I DON'T NOW MUCH ABOUT AKAI PRODUCTS BUT MY SP, PLANET PHATT, AND CUBASE IS THE SETUP I HAVE LEARNED TO LOVE AND CHERISH. EVERYBODY THAT IS GIVIN' THE SP A LOW RATING NEEDS TO REMEMBER THE SP WAS MADE TO BE A DRUM MACHINE ONLY AND IF USED WIT' THAT IN MIND THE OTHER THINGS THAT WE DO WIT' IT IS NOTHING MORE THAN EXTRAS. THE SOUND AND FEEL IS WHAT EVERY HIP HOP ENTHUSASIS WANTS
