I've had an xl-7 in my studio for about a year now and some days I like it and others it pisses me off. It can produce some pretty good sounds (not great ones) if your willing to spend the time to program them, this thing can be a real pain to program tho. I like all the different filters that you can run the sounds through. The effects are lacking somewhat, mainly because you can only use 1 at time. I have not had any O.S. bugs or glitchs or pattern switching problems, although i don't write patterns on this thing anymore. This brings me to my biggest complaint the squencer sucks. in grid mode you can only record 16th notes, and the step mode is lame. It's really hard to be creative with the seqencer. Someone else said they prefered the mc 505 squencer over the xl7, Well I had a mc 307 and it may not have sounded as good, but the sequencer kicked the xl-7's ass. I use my xl7 strictly as a sound module for my mpc. coupled with my other synths it works very well. So if your thinking of buying one save your money and just buy the xl1 (the rack version of the xl7).
