Can't really write a review since I haven't had a drumulator since '85 or so, but wanted to mention that not only was the manual actually helpful (in contrast to the ones we're mostly familiar with) but whoever wrote it had a genuine sense of humor. We could use more like that.

The Drumulator might not be the best drum machine and I kinda wish you could sequence the notes differently then it allows you to but that adds to it I guess. it has a very Unique feel I have two and Midi'd one and you can't use the sequencer with midi saddly.. I have a thing for it for some odd reason and won't part with it. sounds bad ass though my Kurzweils Vast Engine. I'm giving it a 4 outta 5 cause it's a special machine and is still good for it's age.

When these machines first hit the market I remember purchasing a new one;took it home and was ready to return it the next day,and the guy at the store offered to teach me how to program it before i gave up;well I learned programming and there hasn"t been anothe machine i have coveted sense. It f#*^%*&g kicks.I nhave read reviews and everyone merely says nice,or cool.It is more than that but you need the no how of a drummer and the ability to feed the machine your no how.The new machines cheat you with quantinization. If you write patterns in 4/4 and then 8/8 quantinization will not allow you to link those patterns once set with time sig. and measure length;not so with the emu drumulator sp12 etc.Once you create patterns of any length etc. you can then insert them in a song which is the most awesome thing about this unit. The crash cymbal sucks (i say substitute it with a keyboard crash cymbal) but other than that ...if your music expertise allows you more than simple hip hop programming then the emu drum units can take it and dish it out.The machine is the piece to buy today for the bucks. Guess what? I just found me another that is spankin' brand new,so I bid you adieu, and now it is time to kick some ass with complexity in mind on my Drumulator. One bad-ass unit if you ask me.
