I have my 5th 16+ and also tried couple times ASR10.. strange, if not counting that ASR´s could have more memory i prefer 16+ almost as good machine. Those improvements are slight ones. Something is done to snapping sample startings in lofreq samples (at least they say so). And there is stereo input. But its memorywise to sample mono with asr´s too... Editing capabilities are same, theres disk tracks added to sequ -otherwise pretty much same. 16+ sample output has "rotate" fuction and it is not available in ASR´s. Effect processor is same. Allthough ASR10 has more presets on board. Same Waveboy´s effects are usable to both of them. Only exception is GRAINSTORM found in Demolition disk, it doesnt work on early 16´s.
I see that there is started to do 3rd party options to Ensoniq´s.. good thing, absolutely! I allready knew that floppy diskdrive replacements are done (they are not same as ordinary PC´s have) But that FlashBanks are done is pretty awesome! I just wonder if that 1mb for those FB´s is absolute max? It would be nice to have 8mb flash and 2mb standard mem. =D

this is a great sampler, they don't make them like they used to. the memory doesn't sound like a lot but you can do a lot with it, makes a great drum module, and you can build entire songs on it. the scsi expansion is very cool, though I had to hunt a while to find the right hard drives for it. the thing can downsample to insanely low sample rates for getting gritty old-school sounds. it works good as a synthesizer, you can stack up to 8 layers of samples and mutate the hell out of them with the crunchy filters, lfo and mod wheel. has built-in effects that include distortion, and really clean and long adjustable stereo bouncing delays. unlike the other vintage sampling keyboards like the emaxes and old rolands I tried, this one has a usable sequencer and companies still make new sounds for it at places like hardsoundz.com and syntaur.com.

got this thing 4 years ago,got frustrated with it freezing up.so i put it away for a while.got an asr-x. then i came across route66studios.com's web page with the e-cooler.hasnt froze up since....no error 129's or anything even after keeping it on for a few hours.if youre gonna get one get it with the scsi already installed.its a great first sample/workstation.got rid of the asrx cause the eps 16+ is way better.
it think the 2mb og memory is a good thing...makes you get more creative.if you want longer loops just resample at a higher octave... and drums sound really good on it too,especially with effects added.
the old disks that where made for this are really dated...best thing to do is get a minidisk recorder and record stuff on there like analog synths and drum machines....then run it into your eps.
the only con i would say about it now is the sequencer,its good for putting ideas out there really quick...
this unit with an external drive of some kind with the ecooler and some waveboy disks and maybe some sort of external sequencer and your set.

The EPS-16 plus is not dead. More and more people trying to get one of those remarkable vintage Samplers. The is a good website, too where you can find all ressources you might want to know.
