I bought the ASR-X Pro in 2005. I had the ASR-X Pro for all of 2 years. It was my first professional sampler/workstation. I found all the upgrades for it (still have the EXP-3 laying around) and started making killer hiphop tracks with the sampler and the drum sounds from the card. Problem is, the sequencer was so faulty I got rid of it and by this time I already was learning my way around the ASR-10 so I didn't really have to adjust to much when I finally made the switch. Right now, I have two ASR-10s (one w/ LCD and one w/o). Goes to show you how much I prefer the ASR-10 over the ASR-X.

Granted the ASR-10 doesn't have that stellar of a sequencer either but I can do a lot more with it. I've been cooking up fire with the ASR-10 ever since and haven't looked back. I'm going to get a hold of a Yamaha RM1x. The RM and the ASR-10 sounds like an excellent combo, don't you think? What a helluva set up that'd make.

Stick to the Ensoniq keyboards. The EPS is raw, the EPS 16 Plus (bought one to tickle my fancy) is just grimey, MR 61 is hot, TS-10 is hot, and the ASR-10 is legendary.

Interesting side note, Ensoniq HQ is a 30 min ride from my parents house.

What is it with some people saying the sequencer on the ASRx is rubbish? I have just got hold of an asrx and have learnt how to use it without a manual-The sequencer is brilliant and lets you get ideas down really quickly, sampling is childs play-I honestly thought it was going to be a bind sampling into this thing but it is so quick and easy I have been up all night playing on this thing. I do not know why these are not rated as high as an sp12 1200 because i used to have the sp12 turbo and yes it is good but this thing blows it away. I love the asrx and this is from someone who mostly uses computers and Guru drum software. The asrx rocks simple as that. To all the ney sayers 'Are you on crack' :-) this thing is the dogs B's. If you are into breaks or any beat music this is a must have. 5 out of 5

I had the black one back in 98 and I had the red on in 2001.I guess this has been said alot before cause the truth is the truth-this is not a sequencer and should not be used as one,I don't care what you say.You may be able to get away with using loops and breakbeats, but for complex programing or doing thing with no quantization like on an MPC,forget it.Funny thing is right now I'm looking for another sampler and I keep having those flashbacks. When you use this as a straight sampler/sound module/effects unit it's a whole different story. The sound is SUPERB and for that I kind of regret letting both of mine go.The only thing that's got me pondering is that tiny little dial you have to work with.If you have a long sample to trim, your fingers WILL get that carpel tunnel syndrome(NO JOKE!)8 out is a must because you can only use 1 effect (if I'm not mistaking, maybe 2)at a time, but the sound is absolutely a 5.

This black thing is pure and utter trash – in a supreme and superb way. Yes listen to everyone... don’t buy it: it’s cheap, nasty, sequencer sucks just like the TR 808 did. Really, the sound on the black box is a-class; the EQ makes anything sound glorious. Critics and advocates alike understate the modular capabilities. There are hidden parameters, glitches, transwaves, ram crashes, bit reductions, input overloads, and a swinging sequencer. Any sample sounds ensoniq ‘warm’. Ill with other sequencers and sythns. Repeat do not get. Let us make it a classic.
