This was one of my first 'real' keyboards. I still have it, BTW. Ok, so mainly I use it as a controller now (and it does have local off), but I just can't bear to part with it. Besides, I have this great old fairlight string sample that's been resampled and mangled by the mirage and I just can't seem to write without it! Bottom line: If you want a great entry-level, easy to learn sampler...THIS AINT IT! Go get an Akai S1000, they're cheap n easy. If you like gritty, grungy, samples and want a cheap beast to complement the timbre of your pristine 16-bit boards, you can usually pick these up 2nd hand for under 300 bucks. The Mirage surely goes down as one of the all time greats alongside the Emulator, Fairlight, and Synclavier. The difference the Mirage had in comparison to all of those is that you didn't have to re-mortgage your house to buy one. Even though it was totally useless as a live performance machine, its sound and spirit lives on in its successors, the EPS and the ASR-10. Remember great samples such as "Ta", and "Doo", great stuff !!!!

Great 80's board I agree dirty samples, but they can be twisted to whatever. Syntaur Productions still has lots of sound libraries available - original Mirage factory, K-Muse library, their in-house samples and best of all I think the "SoundProcess" collection. Different operating system but 16 part multitimbral, 32 instantly accessible sounds per bank, better MIDI implementation. Cool sounds if you like analog-techno

A bitch to use, but great for fucked up, dirty sounds. Bringing down the sampling rate produces some crackly, fuzzy effects which are perfect for my purposes. I picked mine up for �230 (about 400 american dollars) in the small ads section of my local newspaper. I love the filters and the fact you can play a sample over the whole range of the keyboard.On occasions I'd actually rather use this than my 16 bit sampler. Because of the gritty sound and the effects you can achieve with the filters. This synth is destined to become a classic.

A unique and unusual sampler. Use it every day and have grown attached to it. Kind of hard to fine tune, especially when looping, But its still possible. I like sampled string sounds with a subtle filter on them. Its hard to get those gritty sounds on any other instrument. I also sample the output from a metal detector for bass sounds and with a little tweakin(actually alot) they sound just as good as some of those treasured and expensive analogs. I;ve had single patches crash on me, and it sucks, but its not often and its to be expected from this oldy. I'd never rid myself of it! If anyone have the MASOS (manual only), or would like to swap sounds, please contact me.
