This module doesn´t sound as big and clear as my M1R. It´s got a lousy interface, small display, use an computer based editor, typical 80´s sampled waveforms, good acoustic sounds for pop/soul. Some nice pads for ambient, techno. Ugly pops and clicks in some waveforms. Effects: The reverbs are ok, the rest is quite bad.

The kind of sounds you can achieve from this 1-rack unit is unique. No traditional wavetable+subctractive synth path can reproduce the transwave sample scanning. The MIDI implementation is absolutely complete; this module gives you the possibility to re-route midi messages onto eight simultaneous midi channels! Some CC can be assigned to the bas wave of the sound, so you can change in real-time the basic sound by using the bend weel, leaving unchanged the rest of synthesys and DSP settings. It has portamento too. How many cheap modules have it? Cons: the noise it too high, the LCD panel can be seen only from high to low, the battery test fails even if the sounds are correctely stored.

The SQ-R is the rack version of the SQ-1. All the comments about this machine are to be found under the SQ1/2 section of the synth reviews.
