I just bought the EPS "Classic" for $160. This sampler sounds amazing. Sample time isn't an issue because, depending on the sample rate, you can get over 40 seconds. I produce Hip Hop and this keyboard is perfect for what I do. I cant believe how full it sounds. If you make Hip Hop music and need a new "weapon", this is it. I've used MPCs and ASRs, this thing can hang with all of those other samplers.

the eps was the first sampler i bought considering it is a full worstation it was a clear choice when i bought it for 300$ canadian(like 150 american).4 years later i i've yet to find a sampler that pumps out that warm punchy bass and snappy dirty sounding snares THIS SAMPLER IS FUCKING BEAUTIFUL in sound quality true it is very limited in sampling time and i've upgraded to an akai s3000xl for that but i still use the eps to sequence and produce those beautiful punchy kicks and basses, trust me you wont find a sampler that matches this one for dirty punchy drums you don't even need to compress em they are godamn slammin!!!! still my favorite piece of equipment and i pray everyday the floppy doesn't crash on me for good.

I'm too cheap to buy anything other than an eps and computer software but have used other peoples MPC's and such. For it's time the eps was cool but it has no effects can't sequence in real time takes forever to load sounds and only has 13 bit sampling for the money it costs to get an eps you could get something like reason and hook it up to a midi controler and get a much better sound even the filters on the eps suck it's just not worth it.

In over ten years of use I have yet to find any other sampler with the sonic quality and keyboard feel of the Ensoniq EPS 16+ (the Emax II came close - the Akai's and Roland's are too "clean").

It's a wonderful "players" instrument - the engineers at Ensoniq got the feel and weight of the keyboard just right. The effects (oooooooooh - that gritty overdriven Leslie sim - wonderful!) are superb. There is something about the DA output that means that I can lay down sounds to multitrack digital without any need for any extra EQ or effects - a real "rounded" output.

Sadly, I'm getting worried about how long my floppy-based sample library will last, so I've decided to get a copy of EPSM and Emagic's ESX24 and port over my beloved sound library and spend many months trying to recreate the sound of this wonderful instrument inside my Mac.

RIP Ensoniq...
