I just bought my esq1 a couple of weeks ago from a local pawn shop. I spent $150 on it. Though it is having a few minor problems so far I love it. All I really want now is the owners manual but I'm having a really hard time finding one. If anyone has one they would be willing to copy, or know a way I can get one please e-mail me a.s.a.p.

Phil Howard a part time user from USA writes:
This is a great synth that seems awful the first time you trun it on. Do NOT base your opinions on the factory patches because they're horrible. Program your own!!!! The real power of the synth is in its sharp resonant filters and the ability to patch virtually any modulation source to any destination easily and quickly. This great for setting up those infinite modulator circles to generate random noise. Example: LFO 1 - LFO 2, LFO 2 - LFO 3, LFO 3 - LFO 1 And since each destination can hve two sources, you can throw the mod-wheel into the mix on one and control the whole sloppy mess! Send one out to the filter and bingo... beautiful chaos. An effects processor is really necessary to really get the best out of it. I run mine through a quadraverb and it's gorgeous. Everything from low rumbles to sweet pads and strings to industrial noise. Great value for the money.

I had a friend who owned the ESQ-1 back when it first came out. He bought it instead of a DX7. It was pretty amazing at the time, probably the one of the earliest workstation synths in it's price range. Looking back in retrospect, many of the sounds were pretty cheesy (what was with those god awful drums), but I never got into programming it since it wasn't mine. The sequencer was pretty basic too. I remember some cool leads from it. I wouldn't mind having a crack at one again to see what I think of it now. Otherwise (again in retrospect) I don't care much for it. My rating is a rounded up 2.5.
