Hi...
I have a Series III CMI in mint condition -- it has only been used in a studio setting. I would like to sell the machine. Suggestions?

I love my Fairlight CMI 111! It still is the best sounding sampler ever. Unfortunately, I'm selling it to help finace a new business. It's never been on the road and is mint condition.

A fully expanded Fairlight CMI Series III is such a powerful sampler. While most of the market today are still sampling at 44khz or even 48 khz the Fairlight samples 100 khz sampling rate. The sound quality is totally out of this world. I would totally recommend the 4 GB drive from Peter at Horizontal Productions London TELE.(02073590360)as a sound library. Priceless When you get to know the system, which does not take long, you will be composing, editing, Sampling your own creations. I love the sequencer so much that I find it strange when I use my PC for composing. MJW above has a very good comment. I was only talking to another Fairlight user within the last month saying the same subject. If anyone is looking at this page, they must be thinking of getting a Fairlight Series III. Go for it... you will not be disappointed. (It might be a quest trying to find one. Users would rather cut off both their arms before selling their Series III.)

When I was at College in London, I was fortunate enough to have limited access to a Fairlight CMI Series IIx. This planted a seed of desire to own one of these fabulous things, simply because of the fun of using it, but the cost was astronomically expensive. On Wednesday 28th August 2002, I collected my upgraded SERIES III, (Revision 9.34 software) from Horizontal Productions, London. It is FABULOUS! I don't have a studio, but a huge desk holds the CMI, Mixer and amp/speakers. The IIx was good, but the Series III is GORGEOUS! Sound quality is just what you'd expect, and then some. My neighbours are convinced a pair of jets flew over our site of 7 houses on Sunday, just because I'd left the window open while playing. Whatever you do, if you're thinking of buying a Fairlight, DO IT! It will last you virtually for ever (these things were hand built using the best bits available). I've been told that cheaper, Windows based programs are available for my PC and that I've wasted my money. What these clever idiots don't realise is that the sound quality from the Fairlight is a galaxy away from ANY such programs. OK, they can sample, have some waveform editing capability, as well as sequencing, but the CMI's approach to treating voices/sounds individually right up to the time they're spat out from the back of the solid mainframe means that it wins hands down. Beg, Borrow or Steal if necessary, but you must own a Fairlight CMI!

Gus, I love your comments! Particularly the comparison to ProTools. You are so right about this! I wonder why todays vendors don't look at Fairlight technology as an example of how create good tools....I'll never sell my Series III!
