I must agree with some of the previous writers... The sound that this machine produces is HUGE!!!! It sounds as huge and powerfull as it looks. No joke!!!! It is surpassed by most of todays samplers and combos in memory and voices, but they have NOTHING of the analoge power-feel that it has. It's like comparing a transistor amplifier to a tube amplifier. If You have the money!? By it!!!!! I havn't my anymore and I miss it!!!!!!

After a long, long wait, I finally recieved my IIx. I would advise anyone interested in one of these machines to get one while they're still around. The OS is great, and the sounds are pure musical history. No matter what people say, this is NOT the greatest synth in the world (that honour belongs to the Kurzweil K2x00 family), but it IS a fabulous machine with a sound all its own.

By the way, if you want the sounds of the Fairlight (the samples, that is), but you can't afford/find one, pick up the Fairlight IIx Library sample cd. Pro-Rec is still selling it, I believe. I bought this cd years ago and, now that I actually have a IIx, I can tell you that it compares extremely well.

Astounding - Bought a non-working one cheap with the intention of fixing it and selling it on.

No way - this one stays. Although only 8-bit it sounds enormous! Final conversion was when I sampled a Stylophone (for a laugh) and ended up with the most amazing organ sound ever....

I would trade it for my dog, my cat, and my car, even though it is low on MIDI channels, and doesn't interface to my Roland JugBand 2000 sound module well. The sampling is the best synth since the SK-1, and I used to in -several- movies starring Matt Broderick. Believe it or not, I have one mounted inside my tank! You can see us at all the shows in Belize. Sorry my English is not so good. Keep up the good work, Page R!

The IIx is the best sounding sampler i've ever used.

I think it wipes the floor with every competitor.

The only samplers that it can be compared to is the III series and the Synclavier.
