It is all about the action. It does not have a lot of features (even though it has what I need)

PROs: Besides some Kawai digital pianos, this keyboard has the best action I have come across. The action is a bit on the heavy side but very comfortable and expressive.

A small comparison with other keyboards and digital pianos I tested before choosing it * CASIO PX-110: ok, actually * M-Audio (all):crap * CME (ll): crap * Yamaha CP33: nice * Yamaha P120: nice * Kawai MP8: very nice! * Kawai 9000 / 9500: very nice! * SL-900 XP: nice but I liked the 880 better * SL-990 SE: - " - * SL-990 PRO : Action is too light for my liking

CONs: To begin with I was a bit annoyed with the noise the keys make, but I have gotten used to it.

I have this very annoying problem with the power switch. I have to press the button very slowly or the unit will not start properly.

I have some strange problems like not being able to assign MIDI channel for other zones but the first one.

Summary If I lost the SL-880 I would definitely buy a new one.

I have nothing but good things to say about this controller. I also use a Korg sgProX, and I prefer this action by far. It is not very expensive, I paid only $750. for a new one, and it is not big on features. But it does all of the perfunctory splits, zones, layers, patch changes, etc. I use midi mappers (MOTU and Digital Music MX8) so memory is not an issue for me. The bottom line for this controller is that the action, for a piano player, is lovely. With a good piano sample, you can really get a good feeling of being behind a real piano. If you need more features, look elswhere. If you need the best, most solid piano feel, this is it.
