it is just too wonderfull and it kind of pushes me in to proffessionalism but i got unfortunate of recent. it lost its screen functions

hi .. i like this workstation alot solidly built although not weighted keys has a nice action simalar. compaired to other plastic keys .. 250000 note sequencer powerfull still to todays standards .sounds are very good over all, some say a bit dated but i think a good range strings good ,synth bases sound efx fantasy type very usable ..all depends how you define dated good all round i think. midi well, 2 sets of in/out thu not many stations with that.. easy to used with a bit of reading of manual or trial and errer easy system after little playing around.plays midi songs but the turbo system uses midi 1 format easier to download songs from comp ...i have the module version turbo as well and i find the design gives a little more scope....as was said in an earlier review very good controller keyboard ,there going reasonably cheap to say they were about £2000 price range..i like it i would replace if broken .. worth a look out for

Bought my S2 about 7 years ago because I heard of its fantastic controller abilities and I was not disappointed. The on board sounds are pretty good but by todays standards of course a little bit dated. Synths, Pads, Guitars and Basses are great.The rest is OK with Piano and Drums being poor.
Very good on- board effects section. The keyboard itself plays exceptionally well. Best non weighted synth keys I have ever had. The whole machine is heavy and feels like its built like a tank. Rock solid - mine is on 24/7 and I have never had a problem.
Data is written to Floppy because there is no battery backed RAM in this synth. I am not much into sound design and usually just play with whatever comes with a synth, but on this one editing seems very easy because of its large (HUGE for it's time) LCD screen. I have never seen a screen so crisp and bright on any other keyboard before. The only small problem I am having with mine, is that the data dial skips when turned really fast. When turned slowly it works just fine. As mentioned earlier the unit is worth buying just for the Master Keyboard functions alone. Polyphonic after touch, real time sliders etc...
If I would loose it or if it would die on me, I'd definitely look for another one, since they have come down in price a lot and there is nothing in this price range that can compare. I have several newer and much more expensive keyboards but the S2 is the center of my setup.

I have the s2 from new and had the turbo upgrade fitted. Like the other reviews to start with the operating system was hard to get on with, then it just clicked and in the last 10 years i have not found a better operating system on any workstation and i have used loads including the triton and xp80. although the basic sounds are average i have tweeked alot and the drums are very uasable. This probably the only synth i will never get rid of . Try one you might like it.

Got mine in 1993 and still have it. It is both a powerful synth and a powerful master keyboard. There many filter types to choose from, 2 filters + resonance per sound with an envelope generator for each. Great for those warm analog sounds! Panning, amplitude, modulation - almost everything can be assigned an envelope and is modifiable through the (poly or channel) pressure sensitive keyboard or the slider controls. These sliders can also generate any controller message for i.e. sound modules or other synths. 2x midi in/out/thru( with merge and filtering). Has 2MB of ram for samples and 6MB of wavetable rom. Room for a lot of your own patches. The case is largely made of metal - very sturdy. I love this machine, but it has its drawbacks: no NVRAM - settings are gone after power failure. You need to expand with a ramdisk to prevent this. - Piano sound is worthless (but I do like the brass sounds, in contrast to other reviews here) - Mono reverb effect is not very convincing. I prefer to set it to stereo and then also to maximum to get the idea. Also the phase shifter sounds like a flanger to me.
Overall there a too many options to write them all down here. I'd suggest if you're interested to search for an S2 manual and see the available options yourself.
