I just aquired DP3 and this new synth, Equinox 61 Key. I must say at first I was really trying to get my hands on a K2500, but the Equinox was a bit cheaper. After using it for about 3 months now I finally settled into it. I love the sounds, and I love the fact you can alter every single sound in it and store them. However good things dont come without a price...General Music's Support sucks to no end...Ive also had problems with compatabilty, try typing in 11 banks of 128 sound patches in FreeMIDI...IT SUX!!! but despite all its little flaws it is a good synth for its price and all the options you have with it.

I did a lot of research on this board and it seemed pretty comparable to the EX5, which I had a chance to play a few times and loved. Once I got the board, it seemed pretty well constructed and the keys didn't feel like cheesy poor plastic things. I dug into this thing and found the sounds to be fairly thin. The drawbar mode is the most unique feature as well as it's best. Programing is not any more difficult than any other comparable workstation. But recently problems have been rearing their ugly heads. I upgraded the ROM to 8meg and since then there's been numerous problems. First thing I noticed was the arpegio stopped working. Then some of my programs wouldn't save. Most recently the problem has been when scrolling through the presets (user and factory) it skips about 10 to 15. And support? Good luck. I could rate this board higher if it had the support or any clue at all on how to get it fixed, but that has gone no where. Therefor, this hunk of shit is now a table for me to put magazines and crap on. As far as Phil's review about originality, this synth has pretty much the same sounds and programability as Yamaha, Roland, etc... Originality is not necessarily the board, but the user. The reason why a lot of that music sounds alike is the same reason I don't listen to radio, artists that are just making money doing the latest new trend.

I purchased my Equinox in August 2001 and it rocks. No other synth/workstation comes close to it. I play with 2 bands, one rock and one dance/techno/hardhouse. The organ sounds are excellent for rock music but really this is the ultimate dance synth. The sounds aren't like anything else out there and when you begin to program this baby you will really see what it can do.

Every dance orientated band uses Korg, roland, yamaha or clavia and that's why all dance music sounds the same........ They are ALL using the SAME sounds. If you want to sound origional then check this machine out.........
