The Hardware is good, just the usual PnP Problems with the Crystal 4236 and the SAM9407 behind the Crystal Chip. The Midi Sound is great and very compatible. But the Software from Guillemot is a shame. They use the Standard SAM9407 Firmware and basically a 16bit Win3.1 driver under Win9x. There is no support for Win2K or better. There are the Maxi Sound 64 Utilities which are still in a Beta state and quite buggy. Dream access under DOS is very poor. There seems to be no way to load a soundfont (but all the tools say, they can do it). But no disk activity when loading a 10MB Soundfont... (so what does it do?!?) Thats why just a 3. BTW: It's possible to get it working under Win2K as Crystal WDM with the Dream as MPU 401 external device. comments: enigma@mail.lipsia.de

Hello, I've a Maxi Sound 64 Home Studio that was flashed as a Terratek 64EWS XL, and so it's not working at 100%. How can I flash it back ? It seems to be possible. Thanks, Chris LS

This soundcard is working weell under Windows 95 & 98, but I warn you: never change your operating system again, because Duillemot openly admits that they don't have the knowledge and the means to develop drivers dor Windows 2000 and higher. I think it is a shame and a joke; can we still take Guillemot as a hardware firm for serious?

The computer find the material as "CS 4236". Another problem : This card seem to be uncompatible with Winphone ...

I think the instrumnts in Maxi are very good, especially strings and drum sounds, they are more natural and deeper than instruments in AWE64.The card comes even with powerfull programm - Quartz AudioMaster. But major thing is that you can add whenever you want more megs of RAM - up to 20 MB.I think it is better than AWE64.
