A bit overhyped synthesizer, not worth that much, only 1 osc.but good real time controllers and easy to edit, sound is good, chorus is dated and boring, and yes Vangelis used 2 in past, but today? No,he do not use the Juno 106 today,i use mine most of time for some noise sounds, but to be honest i almost use it never, but stil the boring and dated chorus(string)is useful in a mix, maybe thats the secret of the Juno 106? And then there is that known/famous Voice Problem(VP), For nostalgic reason i wil keep my 106,it has being repaired(VP)to keep old synths alive and kicking for future

Great synth. Nice filter. Strong case. I have a hs 60 aswell. The bass is grooovy. Great chorus. Mine smells fine aswell. Belonged to a lady. Wish Id got one 10 years ago, when I was in the 4th grade. Could have got one in better condition. Most are now looking frail through hitting the road big time. Studio 'kept' are rare.

A really nice sounding, easy to use and quality made instrument. Get a good one and you will be pleased with the service it gives. I have just had one delivered to me for a repair that was bought off ebay. It had the usual ebay bought faults...screws missing, voice and output problems, damaged pitch bend etc. Why do people buy off ebay? The prices are high, the risk is huge. Descriptions are vague....'I can't test it', 'I don't know how it works','It's been unused for some years','Probably only needs a service','You can buy bits for it on ebay'. etc..This means Knackered and they know it! In the trade, if a dealer buys a synth that will cost a fortune to fix..every one does it at sometime, the initial respose is always, 'I'll stick it on ebay'. Old Rolands are fast becoming troublesome and difficult to fix. A good 106, that has been checked and seen working is a good bet. It might go wrong, well at least you bought it working and had a chance to check it and negotiate a price. Chances are that it won't. Buy off the classifieds on this site, or Sound on Sound. No hurridly being pushed into a decision. A good synth, but you have to take care when buying. The sorry owner of the example mentioned above, refused to believe that someone on ebay would mislead him, and he went on to argue with me. The seller had said that the problems were easily and cheaply fixed. I had to explain that it had lied!

Say what you want about this board but take a look at how many famous musicians have used them. Vangelis has two of them in his set-up. This board is not as complex sounding as many newer boards but on the other hand it is cleaner, louder, sharper and a good tool for all levels of players. Best feature on this board is every control you move will change the sound. Many say this is a must have in any set up and I would agree.

James Reeno a professional user from The Big Apple (Home of electrofunk), NY writes:
I know I'm gonna catch some heat for this, but here it goes:

I borrowed a 106 about 7 years ago, and basically did an entire album with it... That being said--I did get some decent sounds out of it, but I soon realized how un-agressive it sounds in a mix. As a "lead" synth, it falls flat. It just doesn't scream...no balls, no punch. It does nice pad types of sounds--in a more mellow context, it's fine for it--but if you need ballsy, phat, huge sounds--forget the Juno 106.

After all, it only has one oscillator..and a DIGITAL one at that!--very limited.

When I was finished with the Juno, I gave it back to it's owner, and he sold it--he never missed it.

About a month later, I got my hands on a Prophet-5, and I was blown away. The prophet is EVERYTHING the juno is not--warm, fat, punchy, complex, exciting, unique, ballsy, cutting, and distinctive.

The old american analog synths simply have more balls.

I also owned a Jupiter-6, and it was better than the Juno--but my prophet promptly blew it away as well.

In conclusion, I find the juno to be highly overrated and over-blown. It's just a very okay sounding, very limited synth. I wouldn't pay more than $150 for one.
