Never understood the ferver over the 106. To me, it sounds thin with limited range of tonality. I still have one but it's definitely an auxilliary keyboard. By know means could it stand on its own as
the main source. On the positive, it is nice to have a keyboard that you can jack w/the sound on the fly and not have to dive
into some programming/editing depths using a 40 character lcd as your window. Edit-by-ear...kind of refreshing.

I do like it - but I do think it's a little over rated - the sliders have a fairly lo
resolution which means that it's quite hard to get pinpoint control.
This is especially true on the envelopes and the filters. Not too much of a problem but if you like to have that degree of control you should
be aware of it. The other thing that's a little annoying is the speed of the envelopes - they are a bit slugggish
and consequently make it hard to get very 'tight' or clicky sounds. great for slow sweeping and fullsome pads
Just my 0.2 worth

I had one once, but a shortage of cash mad me sell it :((
If you can get one for about 300, you should, as it makes
some pretty wicked sounds. Bare in mind tough, it's the sliders
that make the synth (i.e. the ability to mess around.

This synth absolutely rocks!!!!!! Unison mode is Phat, especially with
overdrive.

I picked mine up for $400 bux... it came UPS with NOTHING but the synth itself... it was harder to find a cord for it than learning to program it... making patches is a breeze... 64 patches on two different banks (A and B) are incredibly easy to program... fully MIDI enabled... Low Pass filters were very nice... the Chorus effects I felt sounded almost identical (there are two of them)... no velocity sensitive keys or aftertouch, but i'm a techno artist, I DON'T CARE!!!! I'd buy it all over again in a second for $400, wouldn't pay much more for it though... put it through a distortion effect and you can get it to sound very similar to the TB-303... but then again distort ANYTHING and you can get it to ALMOST sound like a 303... great for techno/gabber/any type of dance music pretty much... great for thick bass and acid lines... high pass filter is very dynamic as well... only thing was (and maybe this was just with mine), if it didn't warm up properly the DCO seemed to go out of tune occasionally... i thought this was supposed to be only with VCO's??? oh well... a great synth for beginners, and a great sound for anyone at a great price... what more do you want??? : )
