Markus from Germany writes:
This is a very simple synthesizer with very limited possibilities (it has only one DCO, one LFO, one envelope !). So why does almost everyone seem to love it? The most obvious reason is that it sounds just great. (I really do not know how anyone can call the sound of a Juno 106 "thin", no matter to wich synth you compare it. It cuts through every mix and is truely able to send shivers down your spine.) Another reason probably is that the Juno 106 sounds very, very modern despite of its age. But the most important reason is: it is very simple. You are able to produce great sounds (especially pads, organs and (sci-fi-)effects) at once and with all those sliders you have got the full real time control. It seems that the limitations of this synth boost your own creativity. By the way, the sub-oscillation (you can add a lower octave to the sound of the oscillator) is very effective. And after all there is the big advantage of the Juno 106 that it is a real analogue synthesizer with digital control, midi and patch storage. So this is simply a great musical instrument, despite and because of its "limitations".

Chris Taylor a professional user from Brussels writes:
This synth isnt that phenomonal . I have had mine since 1997. It's your basic analogue synth. THIS SOUNDS NOTHING LIKE A JUNO 6/60 SO DONT BUY IT THINKING YOU ARE GETTING A MIDIFIED VERSION OF ONE OF THOSE. It's actaully very very thin sounding , BUT you can make it sound a little beefy by programming it correctly. None the less, dont expect anything spectacular from it except your basic digital osc. / anlogue filter synth. Nothing more nothing less.

good day

Mike Ystad a part-time user from USA writes:
This synth is phenomenal. I'm in love with it. It is sooo creamy sounding, and the bass is amazingly deep and rich. I would say it is best for basses and pads, and smooth Vince-Clarke like pings and pongs. The filters are rich, but there's no violence to them, I wouldn't try to get any squelchy acid sounds from them. This is a synth that is nice and expressive, and if you are trying to get scary/distorted/industrial type noises I would look elsewhere. I mainly use this keyboard live, but as far as sequencing goes it's tight and fully-midied out. The things that are great about the JUNO 106 are:

Creamy PWM pads Thick, deep Sub Oscillator Smooth filters Easy to use, and everything sounds cool Famous Chorus Effect (trademark from electronic music, if a bit noisy)

It's not a Prophet 5, by any means. But then again, a Prophet 5 isn't a JUNO either...

I recently procured a Juno 106 (decent shape and price ) Anyways I'm no vince clarke , heck i'm no lois and clarke ( feeble atempt at humor :) but i'm learning about synths and this one is perfect. Everything is laid out in front of you. My friends have synths where you have to scroll/click/and jump throu different menus to do what i do with a push of a slider. I've gotten some kick ass bass and bubbly acidy sounds out of it. Well im off to explore more of my new toy !

Bulldogge a hobbyist user from USA writes:
Just to clear something up: All Roland Junos have DCOs--Digital Controlled Oscillators. This is true for the 6, the 60, the 106 and the Alpha-Junos. The oscillators are still analog, but they are controlled by digital means. Hope this helps to clear things up.
