Yeah, but what about that UFO patch? It's really neat, especially when played very loud. Here you are trying to tweak a million knobs to create some spacey effects to no end, why not just land a UFO in the middle of your block while you're at it.

Aah. This was my first synth and what a great piece it was. The keyboard of the Juno one isn't sensitive and only 49 keys but apart from that a groovy motherfucker. Great for bass, pads, twiddly noises. Well almost anything but acoustic shit. Get one especially if you get it cheap. Also check out the mks-50 wich is the Juno rack model.

Patrick Nolan a part time user from USA writes:
I've owned this synth for over a year and get little use out of it.

I have heard some people say good things about this synth, but to me it doesn't

compare to my other analogue synths. The Juno 1 seems to stand in an akward

place between digital and analogue, too thin and bright for analgue (it's the

farthest from "warm" i've ever heard in an analogue synth) and too

limited and unrealistic sounding for digital.

There are some major problems I have with the Juno 1. First, there is only 1

envelope. This is a royal pain in the ass because it seriously limits the

creation of complex sounds.

Second, the resonance (if set at high levels) distorts and isn't self-oscillating.

Some patches I simply cannot use because while I am doing a VCF sweep the thing

starts distorting. I suppose some compression could fix this... but I'd rather

not waste my effects unit on a poorly designed synth when I could use it on my

909 kick.

Third, changing the levels of the different waveforms is severly limited. For

example, when mixing the white noise waveform, the programmer can select 0, 1,

2, 3... where 0 is silent. That gives you only 3 different volume settings!

Personally, I prefer having a knob where i can select an infinite amount of

levels, rather than low, medium or high.

Since the Juno 1 is limited in its programmability, you cannot get many

interesting sounds out of it. I only paid a $100 more for my Matrix 6

and it gives me 3 env, 2 LFOs, virtually unlimited modulation combinations, FM,

etc.

The Juno just doesn't seem worth its going price compared to other more

programmable synths out there.
