I'll give 2 reviews for this piece. Witht the orchestral expansion: WOW!!! Realistic ochestra textures coupled with the internal reverb makes this a BEAST for film scores, jingles, etc... The best string sounds this side of Kurzweil or EMU sample CD-roms. Now..without the expansion: YUCK! The internal presets are retarded, the synth engine is kinda weak, the drum sounds are non-existant,the filters aren't roland caliber and most of the FX are laughable. You can go in and tweak the sounds come up with some cool stuff but I"m spoiled by all the other knob loaded synths I work on. This synth is like a jack of all trades, master of none. Its a good ADDITION to an existing setup. Its like a swiss army knife, they come in handy but you better have something else to survive. On the other hand, I've heard GREAT things about all the expansion cards and after hearing the quality of the orchestral card, I believe it. Buy one only if you plan to expand it.

I have it for some years, expanded with SFX, World, Session, B&D, OrchFX, M-512E and absolutely very-very happy with it. It's a very super module, I use it along with other gears such Korg Trinity Pro/ Wavestation original/EX/SR/Wavedrum/iX300, E-mu Morpheus, Yamaha QY70, really make a very good addition to the music. Good work Roland! My wish list that it can be controlled easily from Phat Boy just like JV2080 and JV1010,...

Great Synth !! The JV-1080 is a powerfull device that I'm using almost 4 years. The Techno expension board is full of amazing sounds !
Good job, Roland !

I bought this synth used and really liked it when compaired to the JV-1010. I now know that all the JV-1010 negative comments are 100% true. I plan on making this synth half of the centerpiece of my rig. I like all the functions you can perform with this synth from the instrument panel only. I think that I will be doing a lot of programming my own patches because I feel some of the presets are dated, while other's are redundant. This synth is not for all. The sounds are more lush than fat, or hard edge. But for my uses I could not get a synth that suits my needs any more than this one does.

I use my Super-JV 1080 since a long time, and I think I will use it further for a long time. Great presets, great Midi-funktionallity, great EFX. For the moment my Favs are the Strat-Guitar-Sounds. Ive used it in everey thing I made since 1996. I think this thing is a standard-synth in every MIDI-Studio.
BTW: It has a verry stable 2nd-hand price since 1996.
