This synth has plenty of potential as at the heart lies a trustworthy, rich sounding synth engine. It's real strength lies in the merging of the many waveforms available on the Expansion card sets. Be prepared to pay a bundle for them though. It was the one thing that deteerred from from ever hearing the full potential of this synth as I only got around to buying the Vintage card (which is really good especially for sippy basses and warm pads). At the same time I still preferred the sounds generated by my sampler and JX-8P. I really wanted to get the Asia collection but I sold the synth for $1000 Cdn to a friend (who hopefully will buy the cards for it).

I like the syncable LFO's, and the ability to merge two tones with different structures is a nice touch. The filters sound good though don't expect to make this machine chirp like an analog (get an external filter box if you want). For the used price this machine is still top-class thanks to it's healthy amount of outputs and wave expansions (something that even the newest PCM synths don't always offer).

Yep, this thing can sound warm. Just hear the 'True Analog' sound, now, ain't this a warm sound? I prefer to speak about 'warm' rather than 'analog'. Analog synths CAN sound like cold bitches, you know. Great piece of gear!

jason a professional user from us writes:
allrighty fellas, if you don't own the instrument, don't review it. The power of this beast is in the synthesis. You have to sit down and learn how to program it; but just because it doesn't have a 50 big dials on the top of it clearly labeled with a few simple terms doesn't make it worthless. If you have the time to sit an learn it, you can make this instrument very musical and very original. If you want to turn it on, take five minutes twisting dials so you can make some uninspired bleeping and whirring to the thump of a 909, go buy something else. Don't waste people's time coming in here and posting worthless reviews of a product you dislike because it has a popular name on it. It's a solid piece of gear and worth the money.
