hi, i'm a part time pro. musician. i do a country music and classic rock single act using a computer and midifiles on stage. i am using an anteg (italian made) easymidi e-m 100 sound module. i like the guitar sounds on this module. i would like to find another one for a spare. can anyone help me? bob gaetz.

I won't repeat all the accolades but will say that I agree with most of them. I love this thing and have grown to love Roland gear ingeneral the more I use it. I bought an XP-80 in 94 or 95 to replace/supplement my DX7 IIFD with E!. It took a little adjustment, but the more I used it, the more I grew to love it. Still got the DX and XP80. Just purchased a used JV-1080 on eBay to give me a little output flexibility. Even though this is old tech, it is still as useful as ever. I completely disassembled and cleaned all circuit boards, connectors, and switches... Looks, Smells, and plays like new! Anyway, I love this unit and the Roland sound in general. Roland seems to make products that make sense and sound great in a mix or solo. I would encourage anybody looking for a synth to give Roland a hard, long look. Thier products seem to sound better the more you use them.

Fantastic module! I own every plug-in on the face of this earth. Gigastudio with 700 GB of samples... and yet the JV-1080 expanded with Orchestral/Hip-Hop/60's70's cards is da BOMB! The best Pad/Strings machine out there. Great analog sounds too. The filters are awesome!! Buy this thing! Less than $200 is a steal...

My previous review was hasty, so disregard the previous review or delete it entirely. Having spent more time with the Jv1080, I have to say I won't be ditching it and absolutely love it. The amount of lfo control it gives you is amazing and totally opens the unit up to tons of crazy sound layering. This is seriously my pad machine now, capable of those eerie type of pad sounds that the Emu Morpheus is well known for....I'm getting tons of great sounds out of this unit. You can also control tons of parameters and effects using velocity, mod wheel, etc on your controller keyboard. This is a very Pro-spec'd board. The effects are still quite good, even for a unit this old...I suspect they're from Roland SRV line of effects units. Sure, it would be nice to have more like on the JV2080, the 1 multi+1 cho +1 mod/reverb limitation can be a bumout sometimes, but at least the JV gives you 4 extra outputs for processing those sounds with an external effects board. The filters are phenomenal, very analog sounding when in movement controlled by lfo's, and the HPF is one of the best, as good as on any VA....it can sound as good as just about any VA out there, really, if you know what you're doing, except perhaps on bass tones (I've never been able to get bass out of a rompler that could compare to FM or Analog, though). I still think the expansion cards are still a little pricey, but are useful so long as you get a variety of different cards (ie Vintage +Bass/Drums +World +60s/70's Keys)...I have the World, Techno, and 60/70 cards, and the Techno card seems to me the weakest and too similar to the onboard JV sounds. I would give this a 4 due to some limitations such as the expansion pricing/effects, but you can work around those limits.

I bought a JV1080 a couple of months ago to use for acoustic sounds and padding out tracks. For this it works nicely. For some reason expansion cards still cost too much in my opinion for what you get...I have the 60/70's Keyboards, World, and Techno Roms...only the World card has more than %50 useable waveforms for me. In an age where you can pick up a rack sampler with SCSI and a CDROM, this is becoming less acceptable. The manual is really horrible, Japanese companies suck at writing manuals. The interface is decent, but can be frustrating...I hear the JV2080 is improved in this regard. The techno card would be nearly worthless if not for the percussion samples, alot of bad raspy synth samples that repeat themselves alot. I guess it was stupid for me to buy this particular expansion since I already have synths like the Esqm, Alpha Juno, Monopoly, etc, that eat these samples for breakfast. The synthesizing side of this synth is pretty good if you're not a preset whore, although you really have to work it to change them drastically. 4 different types of filters: Low Pass, Bandpass, Hi Pass, and another that I think is a combination filter. Kurzweil and Emu's synthesis functions really destroy the Roland Super Jupiters in this regard. Effects are pretty good, except for the overdrives and reverbs which have never been Roland's strong points in effects. The Ring Mod and Dynamics functions leave much to be desired. Good sound routing and multi outputs.
