I got a JV-2080, and it IS better than the JV-1080 (especially when sequencing - the 3 SIMULTANIOUS EFX plus reverb and chorus are essential to making all the sounds sound like they do in Patch mode in Performance mode for sequencing. It's really not much more than a JV-1080 if you shop around. And the huge display is a GREAT improvement. You really don't know how much better a JV-2080 is than a JV-1080 until you dig down deep and actually use one compared with a JV-1080. Otherwise the JV-1080 and 2080 practically sound the same (in patch mode) but there's more power to you with the JV-2080. It would last you much more pleasure and use than a JV-1080, but if you don't sequence or use performace mode, then a JV-1080 is a cost effective choice. A word to the wise: The JV-2080 is a significant difference in interface wise, and especially EFX wise, even thought it doesn't sound like a lot. The JV-1080 can only use 1 EFX in a performace at a time which is VERY limiting compared with the extra EFX on the JV-2080 when it comes to sequencing. If you don't know what I mean by performance mode, it's the multitimbral mode. If it matters to you, the 2080 also has another bank of sounds and a great/unique Patch Finder function. In short, you can't judge a synth by it's literature, you have to play it, and understand it's points of advantage over others, then decide if it's important for what you do or not.

John a professional user from Germany writes:
The roland JV 1080 Soundmodule is a great module. If you use it like a

basic instrument and connect to a good sequenzerprogramm and maybe you have

a good sampler , than you have a goood baisc studio.
