The JV-880 has some fat pads, noises, and ambient textures.Editing is the key with this one.The techno expansion board I just got is pretty sick, but the loops are shit!I like this for da jungle cause the ambient sounds you can create with the 4 tone layering and positioning of waveforms. Those that run out of polyfony are just not progaming correctly,What about less is more?

Incredible strings, pianos and guitars! But it has also very nice synthbasses, pads etc. The drums are also good.

I couldn't find one for less than $400 used and each one sold right away. So I bought one and found out why. This is a great sounding meat and potatoes module. Beautiful sounds all around, and extremely reliable. Roland modules sound the best to me This piece really exhibits some horsepower when you add an expansion board. A real base-one module with quality sounds.

AFTER HAVING A FEW YAMAHA SYNTHS (DX7;SY55 AND KORG POLY 800) I DECIDED TO GO MODULAR SO I SOLD EVERY THING AND BOUGHT A KORG O5R/W1 AND THE ROLAND JV880. I HAVE FOUND THE REALITY OF THE PIANO AND GUITARS EXELENT ON THE ROLAND AND USE THE KORG FOR SYNTH TYPE SOUNDS. THE ROLANDS EASE OF OPERATION IS PURE MAGIC I DRIVE THESE MODULES WITH A ROLAND A30 KEYBOARD CONTROLLER AND I AM MAD BECAUSE IT DOES NOT SUPPORT AFTER TOUCH. I BELIEVE A KEYBOARD CONTROLLER OF THIS CALIBER SHOULD HAVE AFTER TOUCH RESPONS THE JV880 SHOULD ALSO HAVE ROTARY SPECKER AS A STANDARD EFFECT. SO MUCH MUSIC WAS DONE OLD HAMMONDS WITH ROTARY LESLEY SPEAKERS THAT A SYNTH SHOULD HAVE THIS TYPE OF EFFECT BUILT IN. MODULATION IS NOT THE SAME AS THE DOPPLAR EFFECT CREATED BY A LESLEY. THE ONLY TRUE EFECT IS TO FREQUENCY MODULATE AND PAN AT THE SAME TIME THIS IS AN OUTSTANDING FEATURE ON THE KORG.

I picked up a used Jv880 about 2 years ago and it

has served me well. View it as a good budget piece

with Roland sounds. The Pianos are decent-good. Some

of the guitars &Bass are quite cool. Brass and sax

have quite a bit of top end, so they cut well.

The organs could be better. I added the Vintage

expansion board which is a real kick. That plus

all the Voice Crystal data cards has really extended

my interest in this module.

By now, the JV presets might sound average compared

to new modules. But when you add an expansion board

to the 880 is when you will appreciate this piece.

So thats why i rate it a 4. Without expnsion, i would

say 3.
