K1r: Got mine in 1990 boxed with manual 100. My opinion, a poor mans D50. The presets are a mixed bagged. As so often the case you always seem to resort to the same ones in a mix. Best sound, ORCHESTRA. Programming it is more bother than its worth. The 'partials / PCM samples' are pretty limited. Bought sysex sounds instead, which were awefully similar to the presets. Since all my other sizers are more user friendly I never tried to progam it to any degree. Another menu driven module with tiny buttons and a less functions than my TX81z. To be honest I bought it because I could (cheap n nasty) but have never been convinced about its so-called ground breaking features. It is useful though, as a coaster for a canny cup of char! Unimpressed....

Bought my K1m 5 or 6 years ago, the price was very low indeed, which I can understand very well... I just love that 8-bit crap, an exellent tool for whacked loops and textures, just tune it to the extreme values, add that AM and off you go!! Some trad sounds are more or less ok, though quite on the cheesy side, but I do find it more useful for the lo-fi trash.
It is surprisingly painless to program without manual; a quite noisy synth, though. Any filter or eq would be great, Ive tried it with an outboard filter,a highly recommended combination, and a fuzz box, too; the worse, the better! I was just wondering how destructive it would be with the Sherman Filter Bank...
Nice little piece of crap!

I'm not a professional synth analyst. But I was introduced to the K1 shortly after their manufacture of 1988, in a music store. The thing I remember the most were the ethereal-air sounds of this machine were totally riveting! Vibes and chymes were great also. I'll also mention it has decent keyboard split capabilities. Where could I find one?

Hi i can't add much info to the reveiws only confirm what seems to be the general opinions of this synth. I think it is well worth the price you can pick one up for these days. I am always finding ways to use mine in almost every sequence I make. Does great effects such as ocean waves, rain, electrical storms and such. Strings do sound nice! You can get some cool sounds out of it! But you do need to add some external Fx such as reverb to bring it to life.
