I've been using my K-1 for about six years now and its the most

reliable synth I own. Everyone complains about poor Brass

sounds or piano sounds. As far as I'm concerned, if I wanted a

Brass sound I'd buy a horn and learn to play it. The bottom line

is this: THIS IS A SYTHESIZER, SO PLAY IT AS SUCH. It has great

sounds. Anyone looking for an incredible synth that can produce

both harsh and gentle sounds this is it. Great for any synth

based band or anyone into experimenting. Anyone looking for a

great piano... go buy a piano! This is also a great midi

controller!

I've got the K1m tabletop version. It's given me alot of use for the price ($100.00). I'd definately say i enjoy the sci-fi aspect of the tabletop version. I'd probably use it alot less if i had a different version. The basic sounds are pretty thin, but i do notice it in the rack of some good bands (spicelab for one). I use mostly the bass and basic waveform sounds (with a minimum of two foot pedals). What i like most is how it's "singles" sounds consist of 4 sounds that can be turned on and off easily. It's hard to keep the sounds fresh but it's worth a try.

Charles H. a hobbyist user from USA writes:
The strings are REAL good for an 8 bit synth Hint:Layer The bowed string patch with itself three times (slightly detuned) and add the Orchestring patch for the sustain portion (the result drops the polyphony to two but so what) The "Piano" patches are very poor. The choir type sounds are serviceable. The "FM" sounds are ok. Stay away from the "brass" patches they are almost as bad as the "Pianos". Shines when layered wilth a good analog polysynth. I've had my K1m since '94-no breakdowns, but it will glitch if you change the patch while sustaining a note or chord. Real nice for what it is, "cheap."

Well I never really got into the synth part of it, but the keyboard

feels great for a master keyboard. Good positive feel with a firm spring to it.

So I guess 2 for the keyboard

well... i got my k1 when it came out, and all i can say is amen that it's midi

compatible... SURE, some of it's sounds sort of wank, esp in the horns.. but

nonetheless it does the job for me... i just installed my new rom chip... JEEz

what a hassle! i like the pads... if yer doing some big multitimbral work (i've

got like 40+ multitimbral with my setup) you just have the kawai take care of

the pads... on a sidenote... anyone here have a sweet .syx editor for the k1?

i'm on a windows95 platform... email me back yall if ya wanna discuss further.

always good to hear from a fellow k1 user... i feel some sort of comradery. -thanx for listening...
