I like the K1 for strings, pads, organs and woodwinds. It doesn't even come
close on piano or brass. Now that I have a sample based synth (Alesis QSR)
for imitative stuff, I really enjoy using the K1 for synthy sounds. There
are lots of patches around. The keyboard itself has a good feel. Velocity and aftertouch are predictable.
The keys are (mechanically) a bit noisy on release. It makes a good (and cheep)
controller. My only complaint about the midi implementation is that the
joystick info doesn't get sent out except as data entry when editing, and even
then only the x-diminsion. (If you know otherwise, send me email.) It's pretty easy to edit patches even without a computer librarian. I often
find myself tweaking things at practice while my guitar friends do guitar
things. As far as reliability is concerned, I've had mine since '89 and had no
problems.
