Argueably the best Kawai alongside the K5000. This is a synthesizer, not good for recreating the sound of "real" instruments. It is worth noting that it works best when used as a monotimbral unit. For this reason, this should not be your only gear. The engine just isnt fast enough when several sounds are paralelled, I guess. After all it was a fairly cheap synthesizer when released in the late 80ies. Althoug its digital it sounds like (gritty) analogue with its 7 step resonance filter. Its major force being constantly evolving pads unheard of elsewhere. Mine stays till the end of days. Nuff said!

Pick one up cheap if you can. Wicked dirty pad sounds and weird sounding stuff. Definitely not for instrument replication. Crap interface but its straight forward. Dirty little synth, perfect for dark music. I use it in all my tracks. Also rings bells of 1992 old skool tracks

This has always been my favouite synth from the moment I first played it in the music store. It has wonderful touch sensitive keys and aftertouch. The sounds are amazing so warm and full, which is not usually characteristic of a digital based synth. Anonther thing about this wonderful synth is how easy it is to program. Whoever said you can't make great string sound on this this synth, doesn't know what they're talking about. That's one of the things that it excels in along with wonderful evolving sounds and fat basses. I've owned this synth for 12 years and know it inside out. And love it so much that I'll never sell it.

Resonator a professional user from Calfornia U.S writes:
Okay, this is how it is with the K4. If you want a synth to produce realistic instruments, then this synth is not for you. But if you want a synth to produce killer bass sounds, sweeping pads & unusual but very usable sounds then this is your baby. If any of you have ever heard a Roland Juno 106, the k4 is very similar only better in my opinion. It's capable of some wonderful sounds that no other synth can produce, it has a charactor all of its own. Forget the presets & go into the heart of this beast, and it will show you what it can really do. The effects are noisy, but perfect for that industrial lo-fi sound. And the greatest thing about this underatted GEM is its price on the second hand market. I can't believe that this wonderful synth changes hands for as little as $200 these days. When a Juno 106 costs at least twice as much and is more limited. The "Chemical Brother" don't have this synth in their arsenal for nothing, if you see one the market I suggest you grab it.

An excellent synth for the money. Good analogue style filter response. A very useable little synth which always sounds good. More analogue than digital in my opinion.
