Well...i've got this thing for about a week now and i'm more getting into it. Of course it helps that i've had a K 1 a few years back,so the basic editing is not a big problem...

The sound is...well...a great addition to my JP8000 and MS2000! If you have some analogue sounds in your track, add a bit of weird digital pad from the K 4 and the track becomes more interesting indeed. I've made some pads with stereo-delay/chorus added which make it very wide in the mix. The drumsounds are pretty useful for mixing with loops, especially the percussion sounds nice and 'digital'.

If your setup already has some VA's or analogues, a K 4 will make your sound-palette much wider with it's digital and weird sounds. Assign the cutoff to the mod-wheel and you're ready to jam....

Eric Seven a professional user from US writes:
I originally bought the K4 because I couldn't afford an M1. I now have an M1 at my disposal and I have to say, the K4 has REALLY held up over the years in all the ways that the M1 has not. I mean, I was *floored* when I listened to the M1, which I think is terribly cheesy and dated for modern music. I have always loved the distinctive, dirty sound of the K4, and I still use it in my music to this day. If you can snag one cheap, don't let it pass you by. The interface is wonderful, the sounds are wonderful, and the fx are wonderful.

You can hear the music of my band, much of which uses the K4 at least *some* at http://mp3.com/rfa

the K4 has a digital, resonant filter, it's really easy to overdrive it and get some extreme sounds, it can also take out a setup so beware. When used within it's comfortable range the filter sounds good. The K1 didn't have filters but in a lot of ways it's a cooler synth. It's 8 bit with a whopping 0.5 mb of samples, but both these boards are about using complex waveforms and sampled hits, transients, etc. Terrible for emulative sounds, very good for expressive sounds- gotta give them credit, there's a lot of synths that cost a mint and didn't have much of a distinctive sound
