Chris a hobbyist user from Australia writes:
The K5000s is one of the most powerful synths I have seen for its price range. As opposed to many synths which simply let you edit preset sounds, this beast allows sound construction with complex harmonics, from scratch! Learning to program the K5ks can take time, but believe me it's worth it. It produces amazing pads which can be programmed to evolve over MINUTES if needed! It also excells at producing hard edged synth stabs and dissonant sounds - it's great for industrial type sounds if that's your thing. The K5ks also boasts a great arpeggiator and has heaps of support sites on the net. If original sample creation is your passion, this synth won't disappoint!

PS Can anyone point me in the direction of arpeggiator patches for the K5000s on the internet?

I've had my K5000S for about 2 months and I must say I am in awe of this machine. I bought it from a Dj who didn't have time to program it(or learn to program it) so I guess I got it because of the inconprehensible manual (thanks Kawai!!). So he's got his groovebox, I've got the K5000S. People say it's hard to program, but I don't think so. C'mon people! it isn't a DX7, although it certainly is as flexible (if not more so) and will keep surprising for years to come. It does take a while to get your bearings with additive synthesis, (the Wizoo book helps heaps) this is a programmers synth. If thats what you want, you can't do better. And I can't be happier.

Ben Loftis a hobbyist user from USA writes:
I bought this a few months ago after a lot of research. Once I decided to buy it, they had become scarce so I had to fork out $700 (with expanded memory).

I love the synth. I don't program it as much as I expected to, because there is already quite a wide variety of sounds in the public domain. I just tweak them a bit and use them. The sounds are so much more organic than sample-playback type synths that noone is going to say "Oh, he used patch xyz just like everybody else". Sometimes I think the sound of a given patch changes day-to-day!

Th build quality is excellent. This is the first synth that I don't mind my 1-year-old daughter playing with. It's bulletproof. And the key action is great!

I only have 1 complaint .. the controllers send their data very sporadically. I'ts impossible to do a smooth filter sweep or whatever. You can smoooth the data once it gets to your sequencer, however, and it will play back just fine.
