I purchased the K5Ks at sam ash for $459.00.Its worth every cent for a controler board alone, not to mention the synth eingine!Im really diging the arp snc to midi function. The best or most original synth in a long long time. Its good to get away from the Roland XPs everyone!! is using its like a bad trend! All in all it kicks some rolland but. buy one. That is if you dont what to take part in making music like every one else in "XPland"

When I first heard it at the store, the k5000 did not impress me but for $450 it really didn't have to. When I got that baby home and started twisting those knobs and the like, I'm telling you I was in synth heaven. To build patches is pretty complex, and the the 4.0 upgrade adds better sounds. This is a steal at $450 if you can find one!

Unbelievably versatile and expressive synth. I have yet to complete any patches on it, it's very time consuming. However, it seems that with enough work, you could produce just about any sound you could imagine. Not only that, but it's amazing to have a synth that can be updated via the WEB, considering what I paid for it. Version 4.0 of the operating system is available at "www.kawai.co.jp/emi/k5000_download.html". Download it directly to a blank floppy using Netscape Navigator and you shouldn't have any problems.
All in all, it's really quite a feat to have something like this for less than $500 considering that not too long ago, this was really break-thru technology!

It's amazing and very addictive! The sounds are rich and unique! No wonder someone down the line went nuts over it. To Joe Santo I'd recommend to get a Yamaha PSR - it has pianos, drums, trumpets etc. and it can even play for you if you don't know how.

I'm a recent Sam Ash buyer. It looks like the mail order division is sold out, so you may only be able to get one at a local store. I got mine in New Haven. First off, the keyboard is excellent. Very nice feel and action. The black keys have a great feel, although slightly thin, compared most other boards. Great slightly rounded white keys too. Nice velocity and aftertouch response. Sounds are digital. Nice evolving, full sounding (although the presets have way to much reverb...) synth (definitely synth) sounds. No mistaking this thing for a piano, but that's not why I bought it. The knobs give great control over these sounds as well.
For the $460 I paid for it new, there is nothing better.
