This is a killer synth because the sounds are great. it really takes a long time to program however at the end it really pays off. if you are into making ambient this is the synth for you. just be real care full when playing with some of the knobs, because this synth fires out some really sharp sounds that could damage your speakers. and if you don't belive me just try it and see. I wish that kawai came out with the K5000s MKII that would be great.

Nathan Profitt has wrote " this thing is a Monster " and he is really sure ! I´ve bought my 5000S only 2 months ago, the first impression was deception ! but now after have learned a half dozen of things about it... ahh.. I´m falling in love: It´s absolutely strong and versatile...but nothing is perfect, the push buttons (argh!!) are driving me crazy.

andy k. did you know there is a chip you can buy and put in the 5000s that increases the patch memory by 50%. its very small and it goes in a little panel on the bottom of the case. simon i do believe that you can increase the sensativity for the keys velocity? i have never had to. no its not the weighted keys type of feel. but it is better than any other synth key feel that i have ever tryed on most synthes except for things like the triton pro or motif 8 or roland 88 key stuff whatever. im not in the mood to research this right now but i do think that the wizoo guide can tell you how to change the velocity and aftertouch. i have never tryed to but. does any one know if i can create splits in the board. i have anouther one of these buggers that i bought online, it had no sound at the main outputs but i think it could be a simple fix. just never got around to it. chances are i could use the bottom four twisty knobs to control the other keys below. via midi. i use it as my main controller. i have had freinds over and they are amazed by the sounds they hear. the wizoo guide is hard to find. but i found one in london and it comes with a flopie

Many people have raved about this synth...and so will I! This may be one of the best non-analog machines ever. Simply put, it is extremely versatile. From analog to digital and beyond, it covers many bases. Don't expect realistic acoustic instrument emulations, those aren't gonna happen.(hey, no machine is perfect...get a sampler for that). This board is stupendous for pads (especially long, evolving ones) and other atmospherics. Some of the organs are very good, as are the analog-type noises (I've managed to get juno-type basses and minimoog-style leads). Even DX and Synclavier-like sounds are to be had.

Other pluses: It looks and feels great. The action is superb and very expressive. This machine is built rock-solid and oozes quality all the way.

Yes, there are a few minuses: 1) There needs to be more patch memory 2) The manual's crap (what else is new?) For programming help get the Wizoo book. 3) It would be really nice to be able to audition patches directly from the disk drive. Trying to find the right patch on a disk can be a pain, especially if there's several hundred on there...

Still, it's my favorite synth and I would never part with it. It's great for all kinds of music, from spacey ambience to industrial noise. I think that says it all. K5000 FOREVER!!!
