There's no point apologising for the Spectra's sounds - apart from some nice strings, they're all lame. And of course the K1 and K4 are better synthesizers, that's why they were more expensive!
With minimal editing facilities, the Spectra barely qualifies as a synth, but that's not the why anyone would buy it. It's simply the only five-octave keyboard you can strap on and wander about with. (Admittedly it was a bit dumb of Kawai not to make it battery-powered, so some kind of extension lead on the wall-wart is a must...)
As for the keys being a bit flimsy, well, yes, they click a bit - but the whole point is that the thing is light enough to wear! For a synth that's over 15 years old, the keys seem to have survived just fine, so they must be tougher than they look or feel.
If you want a 5-octave MIDI controller you can wear, get a Spectra. if you have anything else in mind, don't.
