I have used the Korg 05r/w for some years and it features on two of my albums, along with Roland ,Yamaha and Kawai synths. If the user knows what they are doing, you can get a really PHat sound!the only real problem is a little noisy (hiss)apparent in studio conditions. There are some upper scale limitations as has been previously stated. You will need the editing software to make life easy. On the whole one of the best value synth modules around. I will not be selling this baby!

First I had a Roland JV-35, with an extra board within, bt those sounds stink!! That's why I bought the 05/ RW. It was an great leap forward!! Nowadays I have an JV-1000 ( with the best key-feeling, I played the XP-80, but that keyboard wasn't much fun)and an yamaha DX-11, an Yamaha DJX, an Zoom rythmtrach 234, and an emu proteus 2000, but i still use my 05/rw for it has got not real fat sounds, but the sounds are great to fill up "unused" areas. I'll never sell it!!!

Roy Kaighin a professional user from From the Naden (Navy) Band in Victoria, CANADA writes:
I have the good fortune to not only work with the O5R/W, but also it's successor. I combine these with the Kurzweil PC 88 Extended version and a Roland EP9. All run independantly through a mixer in stereo to 2 speakers either side of the 35 piece Band.

These Korg units are so portable and versatile. There's so much on them that I have not yet accessed all there is on them. In my job, I have to come up with sounds ranging from Standard Piano, Harp, Strings, Sea sounds, Church Organ and many others. The sounds are incredible. Thank you Korg.

Mark a hobbyist user from USA writes:
User interface: poor, but use an editor on your computer and you will have no complaints. Sound quality: Very good, lacks a touch in the upper end, but this is a ROMpler not an FM board. Very smooth sounding. IMO, more pleasing to the ear than an Alesis, Proteus or Roland. Envelopes aren't as fast as some analog or FM boards. If it only had resonance... Sonic strengths: Pads, strings, keyboards, and organs Sonic weaknesses: bass, piano Sonic "Okaynesses": brass, woodwinds, percussion Bottom line: You can't do better than the 05R/W or X5DR in the small ROMpler module arena.

Garret Thomson a part-timer user from Canada writes:
Good sounds, good indep 2 bus effects system, and a variety in terms of the types of sounds. The phaser effect is a nice touch. I used it for years doing my General MIDI composition, and there wasn't much else out there that gave me this kind of bang for the buck when I was using it. If you plan on doing pop/jazz type stuff in a mostly General MIDI environment, you could do alot worse than picking one of these up at a nice cheap price. (Maybe 200-300$?)

Grab a software editor tho - programming from the panel is pretty brutal (though the presets are quite nice and there are many more out on the net.)
