I've been using the KORG 05R/W for a few years now. To date, it still is a superbly versatile instrument for the work that I am doing. I utilize it mostly to create MIDI files for my web page "The Midi Extreme" that can be found at: http://www.flash.net/~questps/midi.htm All the sounds on this page have been optimized for users of the Korg 05R/W and similar items.

There may be bigger and better fish in the sea, but the cost of this unit makes it a great competitor.

Thanks!!

This could have been a great machine if Korg had included a better GM section. The RAM sounds great and the effect unit is outstanding. A great plus for the X5 compability too!

Very nice sounding synthesizer.

Also the (mellotron) choir is sounding very realistic and in combination

with the built in multi-effects it`s great to play around with the

built-in waves/samples.

I have no regret I have ever bought this (cheap) module !

Pretty good collection of basic sounds, but documentation is written in Martian.

Answers to questions can be found in the manual in the same sense that a needle

can be found in a haystack underwater at midnight.

Neil a hobbyist user from UK writes:
Taking all into account, (patch quality, usability, price etc.) this is a fairly competitive machine. As other people have mentioned the preset progs and combis are rather naff. But you can find free O5 banks on the net in syx. which are far superior. Also its worth getting an Editor, cause it is a nightmare to program on a 2mm LCD screen. The GM section is rather handy to have. I have got some fantastic strings on my machine (courtesy of some kind chap on the internet) which would put a Kurzweil to shame. Also some superb solo brass and brass ensembles. Overall i am very pleased with the O5, and wouldn't sell it. In my opinion it was 200UKP well spent.
