The 03R/W may be an old synth and thus suffer from drawbacks like limited polyphony, cheesy midi implementation and few sounds.

But...when you consider the second hand price and the sound quality compared to modern synths, it would be a sad thing to dismiss this unit beforehand!

For me, the 03R/W sits in my rack. Whenever I touch my keys, the unit sings beautifully for me. I don't use it as a MIDI playback device. It's just there in my rack, just waiting to give me another spark of inspiration.

This, people, should be in any musicians arsenal anytime. The only thing that's better is the good old Wavestation SR when we talk about old synths.

Richard Downings a professional user from Simi Valley, CA writes:
Got this unit on Ebay at a good price. I thought I could use that "Korg Sound" in my set-up. Hmmm... In the GM mode, this unit falls way short. GM must have been an afterthought at Korg. There are some bright spots in the GM soundset, but very few. As a dedicated synth, it shines.

The units released 03R/W, 01/W, M1, M3R, T2, T3, etc., are classics and have a place in anyone's collection. You hear these synths today on TV, Radio and the Movies. They are timeless.

I give the 03R/W low marks because running sequences into it is frustrating. The processor is slow and the 32 voice polyphony is cut short quickly to playback certain sounds.

But that Korg sound (EP, Brass, Woodwinds, and Pads)keeps us coming back.

Clyde S. a part-time user from South Africa writes:
Combination sounds are the only reason to own these tools - I have 2! No resonance on filters - so analogue synth emulations are particularly weak. Brass/Strings and electric piano's are well done and synth pads are spacious. Pad sounds are probably the strongest feature being able to layers up to 8 different patches.

Will Gaines a hobbyist user from USA writes:
Good addition to any set-up. Sounds kind of cheesy in Multi-Mode, but if you get a hold of some good sound cards and bust it out in the combi-mode. . . you should get some phat results. If you are hurting for sounds/tracks, try layering it with something cheap like a DX-100 etc.

The 03R/W has _four_ audio outs, not two as listed in the specs. - Excellent for the money - Lots of extra patches available online - Used factory sound cards relatively cheap
