well, it's digital, that's for sure. kick is okay. claps and tambourine are gritty and cool but it just doesn't have a lot of personality. mine's got the sampling card but i don't have the manual so i have yet to decode that little mystery. i'd like to see what the ROM cards sound like so if anyone has some they'd part with, let me know. there's a reason that roland's on top and this is part of it.

HI EVERY KORG DDD1 USER
THE SAMPLE FUNKTION ON THE KORG IS LIMITED TO THAT EXTENT
YOU NEED A SAMPEL CARD TO INSERT IN THE BACK (CAN BE HARD TO
OBTAIN) FUTHERMORE YOU CAN NOT SAVE THE SOUND IN ANY MEMORY, THE MANUAL RECOMENDS THAT ANY SOUND BE SAVED ON
TAPE (!). THIS FUNKTION IS USELESS IN MY OPINION.

I've seen these in about 5 pawn shops over the years so I have a limited experience with their sound, but that's not why I added... The DDD-1 also has what is cryptically called a "sampling option" which means that the machine is capable of sampling new drum sounds-- quite a cool feature when you look at how much other sampling drum machines cost (i.e. over $1000). But I don't know what the "option" part means. I guess some of the units were manufactured without the capability. I was interested in buying one of these a while back but couldn't find much info. If someone out there knows more info on the "sampling option" please add to this. Thanks
