This unit is ok I owned 3 of them I sold 2 of them. I honestly cant get the stupid vocoder portion to work I have tried everything and on 3 different modules. I was unable to get this thing to vocode. So I really am wondering what the hell or how in the heck do you get this thing to vocode?. All the other parameters work just fine. Including the pitch adjust. I am rating this a 2 because of the lack of ease when it comes to the vocoder.

Great vocoder! I used it live and in the studio: always great results. I'm programming it with Emagic's Sounddiver, which is much easier than with the knobs and buttons. Is there a manual of the DVP-1 that you can download somewhere ?

This is one incredible rack unit!!! I bought this little puppy 2 years ago and I am finally using its full capabilities. This processor has so many different possiblities for Improving and freaking out vocals!!! Checkout my website and you can hear how it sounds(outoftheanonymous.com)goto live tracks in the download page. I am using the vocoder with my peavey midibass as the midi controller. I am triggering a # of units and i have virtually no latency.....I would choose this unit over antares auto-tune any day!!(well I am going a bit overboard) still love this unit though!!!Also you can use software editors to tweak this unit from your computer(soundiver and others)

I usd one of these badboys for quite a while... tone quality is beyond impressive, interface and 'looks' are clean and smooth... and it was just an absolute pleasure to use. Last one I tried getting was on EBay, and the auction ended at well over $400... talk about keeping some resale value! Many other components like this one are finishing out their lives as dust collectors and doorstops... this one is still kicking...in fact, it ain't just kicking... it's still dancing the Lambada! Don't pass up any opportunity to grab one of these... you won't be sorry you did.

I bought mine NEW in 1986. The DVP-1 is a Digital Voice Processor. It is not just a vocoder, it is much more than that. The Vocoder is excelent and lets you make 5 voice chordes that will cover the entire range of the keyboard. It has a cool unison/chorus and it has its own sound -very good. The harmonizer is not the most inteligent but good enough. The Pitch shifter is basic and excelent. Also, it is a cool Midi synthesizer box for "voices" that includes male/female waveforms. try to be creative and use it with other effects -you'll be amazed. The DVP-1 came in the same time as the DSS-1 and is in my view a classic. I also have the MAM VF-11 which is all Analog and has many parameters/knobs to edit on the fly and considered by many artist as the best Vocoder out there.. I even compared it to the Korg VC-10 and I give the MAM 2 thumbs up for creating the Classic VC-10 and a lot lot more. I can say that both units MAM VF-11 and the DVP-1 are awsome and where one fails the other wins. I will keep both as I use them in total different ways. I also have the Wavestation AD and the Vocoder is awsome but it is a 16 bit -very clean ! if you want analog sound in a digital machine try the DVP-1 as the older 12bit converter in the input is grainy sounding ( same as the DSS-1) and closer to analog than a pure 16 bit found on the Wavestation AD with fewer parameters.
