Well, if you're into anything with beats this machine can do most of the tricks. It's got fairly decent drum sounds coverage, and you can tweak any of the drums to hell and back again - that's if you get into it deep enough! The tweaking possibilities are good to very good, but if you start to tweak its internal synth, it pays to be mild on the values - too much will override the power of almost any sound internally. Remember this ain't a VA!! I used it mainly for drums and managed to let it spew out some pumping beats at the drop of a hat. Just spend a little time with this machine and fine tune your tweakings, and this machine can take you a good way into creating decent pieces of music. I used it alongside a Triton.

As is the case with all modern drum machines and rythm composers, gone are the days of getting useful individual outs per part. How can machines like this and the DR880 be considered professional tools when all your drum patterns are grouped into a shitty stereo out?
The omission of individual outs suggests to me that it should only be used be DJ's doing live sets - recording artists look elsewhere.

OK, just to add on to my last post about this unit.... You can switch out the tubes(don't let the manual tell you otherwise) You just need a set of 2 matching 12ax7 tubes. Just take off the back tube cover, pop out the old ones and put in the new ones. the little screwdriver potentiometer dials adjust the gain for each tube but if they look like their in the same position as each other then they are probably not needing adjusted. I think sometimes they use unmatched tubes and adjust them individually with these. I have tried using a few different tube sets with this unit and recommend the Sovtec LPS tubes, this is what I use.

Can't be beat 4 the price. Dead easy use. So user friendly, I didn't even need the manual. That's good because I didn't get 1 anyways. Sounds phat as ph!@#. Trust me on this I'm a huge gear-head, analog 2 digital I've used it or owned it. Has that gritty electribe lo-fi sound. Curious if the tubes can be changed to any style pre-amp tube. That could get interesting if you use crappy tubes ala metasonix......wish list 4 next korg em, seperate outs.......

My favourite piece of kit. This box is great for working stuff out quickly and for a lot of techno based stuff is all you need. We use one of these live as a master unit for an all electronic setup and it sounds great.
the low end this thing can produce is amazing.
Love it to bits.
