As the reviews reflect, you'll either love it or hate it.But I love it!I had a Roland MC-307 but found it to fiddily and uncreative.Got rid of it and bought this baby for 330 off E-Bay and was Knocked out.Didnt like alot of the DnB factory patterns but loved the Electro and IDM patterns. The layout is neat and easy to get to grips with, and the build quality is solid as a rock.

People who call this machine crap! And call themself's "electronic musicains" have zero grasp on how machines like this have changed music and continue to change music not only though the sounds they create, but how they create them & how you the musicain interface with that machine is critical in your success & satisfaction with yourself, your machine, & your music. Sure it does not have all the bells & whistles like a Nord Lead or an Access Virus, and it does not have infinite MIDI tracks with a Hard disk streaming audio files. But it does have 5 monophonic synth parts, and nine drum parts & each part (synth or drum) has it's own velocity triggers. It can send MIDI to other hardware synths and act as a master sequencer. Only fools will speak of an instruments short commings. And only musicans will make music with them.

I have now purchased an EMX and can tell you that it's probably the best bit of kit I have had for writing dance music. The sounds you can generate are phenomonal. There is no chance of you getting bored of them. This is a synth. Writing patterns is easy and quick. Your motion sequences are remembered perfectly every time. Link up with some other boxes for some amazing fun. (I would recommend a Yamaha RS 7000 and a Roland D2). Software? Pah! I dont think so. Paying cash you'll get one for £450 UK if you shop around. My only gripe is that you can't carry your mute settings through to your next pattern selected... all tracks come in. However you can write patterns with mutes on hold. Yes, there are some limitations, but then which instrument has got eveything that everyone wants?....I would far rather have this and a phrase sampler than the Triton I got shot of some time ago for example.

Just like to say I played on one of these little beasts and they fuckin rock! All the drum kits are hard and the valve tube inside it is definetly no joke, it's fuckin powerful as fuck. I've used various other valve vst's for my sequencing projects and none of them sound as powerful as this one! Just crank it up and watch that baby roar! On the minus side though when I tested it out i didn't get chance to check out any of the other individual sounds, and the downside is that theirs only 75 PCM sounds available which means you could get bored. As well as this it's quite pricy, 599 pounds i beleive. But for what u get I have tested out a lot of stuff on the market and this was one of the most powerful things available. I must say I am very tested in buying one of these gorgeous units co's it would be awesome for my hip hop/drum n bass production.
