high end synths are where it's at. Actually all synths are good (except psr's), but this one is definitely NOT high end. It's more like low end, low class, yet high price.
forget it. I will just stick with the real high end synths that fit my style.

sounds weak and thin compared to high end synths like motif and triton. its good for a toy for sketching ideas. however, it has serious limitations for the pro-user: its not an integrated box with synth sampler and sequencer. And it is monophonic, so you can have only 16 voice total polyphony. You cannot play real chord pads as you can on high end workstations, however, you can get some simultaneous notes through unison. Synth engine has many types, but programmability is limited. The tube is alright. Overall, I thought Korg will deliver better than this. Not work $679. Its a good buy for $200 though. I would advise if you want a groovebox, look into an integrated solution like MC909 or the rs7000. Though rs7000 has thin on board sounds, its sequencer is 124 note polyphonic, and its sampler is great for remixing, and it will give you superb midi control for external synths. That setup with rs7000 and virus will be much better than this. However, if money is an issue or if you are a newbie, this will impress you, despite it not being the best in sound quality.

there are limitations - The big ones: drum parts are PCM samples and there are no ADSR envelopes for the drums or monosynth parts. The modulation section is limited. The pads aren't velocity sensitive.

love it, sounds clean and harsh! limited only to your skill to program it. Don't listen to other posts here, (including mine) go play with it yourself and let yourself decide, who cares if others don't like it! Allot of people do like it. It is just another piece of gear to add to your music... I use it and stopped using the reason REDRUM machine. This is a classic... I hope Korg does not discontinue them like the first electribes!

The tubes sounded, well, like cheap tubes. I think they are more of a gimmic. I really wish they would have left them off, and lowered the price point instead. Oh well, can't fault Korg for trying something outragous like adding real tubes on a box like this.
Saving my money for one of these. Maybe santa is listening?
