76 synth samples.... Is more than what I need for the EMX-1, IE: I don't use them very much because I have been taking advantage of the virtual analog functions. The samples do however sound very good, not the best out there but I dont need ultra crispy samples, The only samples I really care about are the drum samples and those are perfect for me! The synth samples are of the piano, woodwind and plucked varity. But also have some modern type samples in there as well, like synth samples and synth bass samples etc. One of the most over looked samples on the EMX-1 are the drum samples that you can select in the five "key zone" tracks and have them play tonaly accross the zone!

The more I use it, the more I find it extremely creative and fun to use. And 207 drums samples (+ other synth samples) is more than enough. If it's not enough, then use one or more tracks to trigger an external sampler (e.g. get a cheap - but very good - Emu ESI32). Once for all, this instrument must be seen as a very good and easy to use hardware sequencer with two added bonus: 207 drums samples and 5 (that's a lot) VA tracks. There's nothing to really complain about it... Maybe a slight lack of flexibility for live use ? As an "experienced" musician, I like to venture in different styles (ambient/trance/movie/games) and really, this thing can be used to make many things. It's up to you, the musician, to use your creativity and make this instrument sound like nothing else. With samples, VA tracks, 3 good effects and many other features don't say it's not possible. It is.

The EMX1 is for sure to be a classic, just look at what it can do! it builds on the same classic ideas of what the 808 and 909 did. Basically the emx-1 is rebirth in a hardware form, but it does more than that as well. After owning rebirth and reason I would still be hard pressed to give up my emx1. And if you think that the 207 drum samples are not enough or dont sound good enough get the ESX1 than you can load you own samples on it! Just look at rebirth, does it have 207 drum samples... NO, but people have been writting amazing stuff with it for years! Some people will never have enough drum samples period. I use to be that way and I just spent time and money getting more and more samples. In the end I hade tonse of drum samples and no music to use them with because I never was satisfied. The 207 drum sample are great they cover most genres of eletronic music etc. The synth samples I can't comment on because I use the EMX-1 synthesizer's more and more these days. 5 out of 5
