this one sounds great! sure a computer can do more but working within the confinds of a hardware synth/sequencer/drum computer have advantages and dis-advantages. Personaly I would never trust a computer for running the sequencing during a live show. Thats a job for hardware, it never crashes (at least like software does) The sounds are great I can't see how to compare units like this to others because you can design your own sounds etc. The synth stuff sounds pretty phat for korg stuff! sort of surprising because I am us to nord and virus syths, no doubt a syth in it own right, it uses Z1 and MS20 synth technology to drive the sounds and they have there own tone to them unlike other syths, there not better just diffrent very mettalic sounding.

Whoo.... Sounds to good to be true! Huge sound and its sequencer kicks major @ss! Much more than just your run of the mill basic beat box, its a stand alone unit that can pump out songs all by itself! And the motion sequencing is dead on the money each pass the sequencer takes a pass. It really gets me back to paying attention to the basic song melody and structure. Were less is more. Working with he EMX-1 has limets to what you can do compared to other sequencers like a MPC, but it is those limits that force you to work with what you've got and the results are better!

WOW! This one is great! I have to agree with the last review exepth for the tubes, I don't think they sound cheap, they add just the right amount of warmth to the signal that is needed for a drum machine. The syth modeling kicks ass! and the drums are really crispy and deep lower end. 5

I played with the synthesis engine for a good long while at guitar center, that is all I was focussed on. I really enjoyed it. There is a lot of stuff you can do *before* the filter, the 16 oscillator configurations provide a quick and easy way to build up synth sounds. Now, I am not going to actually compare the synthesis engine to that of my Waldorf Q... but there is certianly a few synth sounds you can get using those 16 different oscillator configurations that I cannot get on my Q. I think you can tweak the sound quite a bit without touching the cutoff frequency. The bandpass+ filter option is very smart... I generally have to use up an effect slot with overdrive on my Q when I use the bandpass to get it up to the level of other, parts, so building a boost into the bandpass filter is good.
The tubes sounded, well, like cheap tubes. I think they are more of a gimmic. I really wish they would have left them off, and lowered the price point instead. Oh well, can't fault Korg for trying something outragous like adding real tubes on a box like this.
Saving my money for one of these. Maybe santa is listening?
