I bought this baby not too long ago, and I have to say that it has inspired my tracks a great deal. I know that some of you have been complaining about multiple outs, but this machine was never meant to replace a $3000 sampler.

I'd also like to question the so called usefullness of these multiple outs. About 95% of my work is in my home studio setting. When I use the ES-1, I have no problem transmitting deep bass, and crisp hi's to my DAW. The only thing I could think of is the people are having trouble mixing the levels on the ES-1 correctly... and if you really are that adamant on recording hi's seperate from lows, you can always solo and record each part. (we are talking in a studio setting of course)

The whole argument about real music before was a hoot and a half. When people start attributing great music to great gear, they are just talking straight BS. More than half of the stuff that becomes famous does so not because of "multiple outs", and "wide frequency spectrums", but because it's fresh, or has that "spark" of creativity. If the music world followed the advice these bunch of jokers say, we would still be listening to crickets near a pond.

The ES-1 is a cool piece of gear. I suggest that you try out all the samplers you can, and decide on your own personal tastes and preferences. Note that this sampler samples only at 32khz, and you are limited to one effect (besides the global delay). But hey! I knew this when I bought it.

be creative...make music...peace

I have a lot of fun with this machine if I'm playing around with it alone. It's a great toy to get some ideas out. It's pretty fun to use with a DJ set up, but beyond playing around and mixing in some samples with turntables, that's it's real extent. It doesn't sound very good in a studio setting, and if you are playing records and then play out a track that you made on it the sound isn't very good. It sounds flat and empty. I've sampled and remixed the samples to hell but you can't make an ES-1 be a stand alone track maker. It's too limited by it's output, sound quality. and a horrible effects processor. the decimator can take noise out of samples which is nice, the rest of the effects sound like shit. They sound okay when you first play with them, but overall they suck. The only thing that makes them cool is that the delay syncs to midi.

Sequencer is really cool. I wish a company could make a "pro" model based on the same idea. I love the ES-1 for bringing on trips and to my office, but I dream of a 16 step sequencer/sampler built around the platform of something like an akai or emu.

This Machine is the best value for money machine bar none. What other machine offers sampling, sequencing + real time controls for under $500. You can make a track from start to finish. Being a sampler it use is unlimited . Those whinging about the onboard sounds sample new ones. You can sample a kick drum a hi hat whatever and use them in your sequenece it makes this thing awsome. Don't worry about the single output if you are a creative you will be able to use this piece of gear soley to make tracks. Too many people are making things complicated by hooking all there gear and complaiing it's not compatible. This machine allows you to jump on it and make a track straight up using your skills.

For the PRICE this machine currently has no compeditor.
