I can't say enough good things about the Karma.I've been working with keyboards since I had a Arp Axxe and a dr rhythm drum machine.Then I got a Roland sh101 and after that a small Casio with auto-accompanyment.After that a Lowry keyboard with the same features as the Casio.I got a few other keyboards during that time and finally got a Korg 01wfd in 1992.It changed my composing for ever.A few years later I got the Korg i3 and later the i30. I do mostly improv composing even with vocals and created 15 bands on mp3 about created over 500 songs using the Korg Workstations.After I got the Karma you can imagine where my imagination went with the capabilties it has.So far I've recorded 11 110 minutes cassettes and I can't post the music fast enough.I must have over 400 new songs with the Karma.It has allowed me to finally create the many styles of music I've always wanted to play. The sound balance isn't the greatest on some combinations but I can live with that.As far as the keys being cheap I don't even notice I'm to involved with what's being created. As an actor and performance artist this is the workstation I've been waiting for all my life.I finally got the Karma I deserve. karma is the road machine. cheaper, lighter, and easier to improvise with (it does most of the work). when you really know what you're doing, one finger on the keyboard will suffice. if you want to go on the road with a full-up workstation, then it's the triton.

This synthie is the most powerfull i ever owned ( and i owned a few in 20 years) The concept created by Kay is a New Age for Midi and may be, hopefully the dead end of sample based music, "pressplay groove(?)boxes" and others non-creative gear. In a few words, with Karma, quite everything you have in mind can be easily produced.

It's a great synth concept but not the best quality hardware. Still, I believe that it will revolutionize the entire music making concept. Soon, softsynth vendors will jump on it. Steve Kay is already working on his software version of Karma. It's supposed to be ready in a few months. Check his website (www.karma-labs.com). From what I heard, the soft-Karma will be much more powerful than the Korg Karma. And that said, Korg Karma's price will most likely drop dramatically then. My marking: 4 out of 5 (Karma technology definitely gets 5, but Korg's implementation, i.e. hardware, gets 2).

Excellent synth concept, albeit some issue like small display or keyboard quality. Still, it's a synth that will revolutionalize many of the concepts in today's modern music. Soon softsynth creators will follow the trend. I believe Mr. Kay is about to release his Software version of Karma in a few months. Check out his website for details.
