The Karma is a fantastic piece of kit. The musicians/non-musicians argument is a load of old toss. I am RAM trained, and am proud to own a Karma. Those of you who insist on slagging the machine off clearly have insecurities and limitations. You are missing the point. The Karma allows you to do as much or as little as you wish to do. It's an instrument, not a bloody political tool. If you like the look of it, get it. If you don't, then don't get it. Those who bought then sold within four hours need to get their heads examined. I hadn't got out of "bank A" by the fourth hour. As for rising above others . . . plllllllllease! Grow up, get a life, and give fellow musicians the respect they deserve.

The first time I played the Karma I thought "damn.. this is just an expensive Casio toy keyboard - it doesn't even need me to be there!" Well... after a little more playing I decided it was a bit more than that, although it certainly can be used as an expensive toy.
The trick to this is not to let it take control from you. It's capable of playing bits that humans just cant... and if you can play keys, then you have the ability of combining all these bits into something truly spectacular.
The sounds are ok.. some shine and others fizzle. My favorites are some of the distorted guitar type sounds... They don't sound like guitars but they are dirty and when you fiddle with the joystick, you can get some increadible harmonic feedback sounds out of it.
In summary, this is a good machine. It's capabilities are dependant upon the user's ability to tame and master it. There are enough good sounds to keep you pleased.
If you plan on buying one, DO YOUR HOMEOWRK... You can find it being sold for significantly less than the $1699 most stores are asking.

I own a Karma and am using it as my main synth/sequencer. I have to say that the sounds are incredible. The authenticity of the synthesis are very nice. The pianos, strings, guitars, etc sound realistic and natural when played. I have to say that the Karma function is a bit over my head especially when it comes to programing the effects and arrpegiations. I love the ease of the sequencer. Very easy to use and accessable when editing. My only gripe with it is the weak filters. I program electronic freestyle and require lots of filter movements. Its a bit of a hassle to only work with low pass and high pass filters that don't sweep as fluidly as I'd like them to. Also, I haven't ever found a better effects processor in another synth. The ability to run the sounds through a host of different effects at once as well as two master effects and EQ make this an excellent purchase. I've always used Roland synths before this and they only allow one EFX with the standard reverb and delay. With the Karma, various EFXs are available for each individual track. Very Nice.

Hello there,
To put it quite simply I wanted to send a post with high marks for the Karma. I have been an owner since it came out I got really tired of seeing all of these posts trashing the Karma for all of the wrong reasons. If you don't like the sounds of the Triton you will definetely find no interest in the Karma. If you don't care about getting a sequencer but you are interested in a Triton get the Karma you will not be dissapointed.
You can switch off the Karma function if you only want to use the sounds and the great sequencer. The Karma function can be very useful for guitar stumming (you choose the chords so you are not cheating), harp movements etc....
If anyone out there still thinks that the Karma is actually a synth for loosers without creativity well you obviously did not understand how to use the Karma. It is filled with random patters that don't belong to anybody and you can create interesting strings movements that don't belong to anybody else either.
Give me a break with your "it's a toy, no creativity cheating synth".
